Certainly, acne is not just a problem for teenagers; it affects people of all ages. It’s caused by a combination of factors, including hormonal imbalances, bacteria, inflammation, and the overproduction of oil by the skin’s sebaceous glands.

Above all, one of the most overlooked factors is one’s diet and meal choices. Certain foods can trigger or worsen acne by influencing these underlying causes, particularly through hormonal fluctuations and inflammation.

Fats & Acne Are Linked!

Not all fats are created equal when it comes to skin health.

  • Trans fats and saturated fats often found in processed foods (freezing, canning, or cooking) can exacerbate inflammation, a large factor in acne development.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids, found in foods like salmon, flaxseeds, and walnuts, have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the occurrence of pimples and promote clean skin.

For instance, a study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found that a diet, low in processed foods and high in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids, reduced acne lesions in participants.

iii) Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water helps to detoxify your body and keep your skin hydrated and less prone to pimples.

iv) Limit Dairy & Sugar Intake
